About Me
Hello everyone! My name is Ricky, I’m a recent graduate of the CDU/UCLA Medical Education Program and a past graduate of the infamous University of Florida. I’m incredibly passionate about increasing the availability of comprehensive education to all and advancing the health of underserved populations across the globe. Additionally, it’s truly a passion of mine to formulate individualized strategies to improve the odds of all of my students or mentees to reach their specific goals! In my free time, I enjoy finding new running routes and trendy food spots, anticipating the next wave of fashion, listening to your favorite hip-hop/RnB artists, and rooting on the Miami Dolphins, just to name a few. Looking forward to meeting you all!
Education
I am a recent graduate of the multicultural medical education program at Charles R. Drew University (CDU) and David Geffen School of Medicine, at UCLA. Prior to receiving my medical degree at CDU/UCLA, I received a Bachelor’s of Science in nutritional sciences from the University of Florida.
Teaching Experience
Unfortunately, I have had limited formal tutoring experience. However, while at CDU/UCLA, I had the immense pleasure of being involved in numerous mentorship opportunities for high school and pre-medical students. Additionally, I was required to intermittently showcase my presentation and teaching skills on predetermined medical topics to my colleagues and superiors throughout my medical training. Lastly, I had the rare opportunity to expand in diverse areas of research as Principal Investigator with NIH Fogarty and the University of California Global Health Institute (UCGHI) GloCal Fellowship. In addition to working closely with an impressive team of six researcher in the development, coordination, and execution of our community-first, globally-relevant research, I was tasked with training our Project Manager to collect our mixed-methods data properly, especially with decreasing bias when asking questions during the interviews and focus groups.
